12th Class Grading System 2026: Old Scheme Now, New Scheme from 2027

The 12th class (HSSC-II) result 2026 uses the previous grading scheme at most boards in Pakistan. Passing marks are 33% in each subject, not 40%. The new IBCC 10-grade scheme, with passing marks of 40%, applies to 12th class from the 1st Annual 2027.
FBISE confirmed in a Dawn report (8 October 2025) that its new grading applies to HSSC-II from 1st Annual 2027, not 2026. Geo News reported on 5 September 2026 that FBISE, Sindh boards, AJK, KIU, AKU-EB and ZUEB have adopted the new scheme for HSSC-I (11th class) from 2026.
Current Grading Scheme (Used for 12th Class Result 2026)
The following grade table applies to HSSC-II results announced in 2026, including Punjab, FBISE, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan and most other boards.

You pass a subject if you score at least 33% in that subject. You pass the exam overall (in the aggregate) if your total percentage across all subjects is at least 33%. Failing one subject means you sit the supplementary. Failing two or more subjects (depending on the board's rules) may mean you repeat the year.
New IBCC Grading Scheme (From 12th Class in 2027)
From the 1st Annual 2027, most boards will use the new 10-grade scheme approved by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC). The key changes are: passing marks rise from 33% to 40%, and the grade scale is more granular.

IBCC has deferred the GPA component until all provincial boards adopt the scheme. As of September 2026, Punjab boards had not announced adoption. Sindh, FBISE, AJK, KIU, AKU-EB and ZUEB have adopted it for HSSC-I from 2026.
Why Competitors Get This Wrong
Many result sites state that the passing marks for 12th class 2026 are 40%. This is not correct. The 40% threshold applies from 2027, and only at boards that have formally adopted the new scheme. For students appearing in the 2026 HSSC-II annual exam, 33% per subject is the passing mark at all major boards.
How to Calculate Your Aggregate
Your aggregate percentage is: total marks scored across all subjects divided by total maximum marks, multiplied by 100. For FSc with 550 marks: if you scored 440, your aggregate is (440 / 550) x 100 = 80%, which is an A+ grade.
For university admission, the aggregate usually combines Part 1 and Part 2 marks equally: (Part 1 total + Part 2 total) / (combined maximum) x 100. Some universities use a 50/50 split between Part 1 and Part 2; others weight them differently. Check your target university's admission policy.
Grade Point Average (GPA)
The IBCC new scheme includes a GPA on a 4.0 scale. However, IBCC has not released the official GPA conversion table for Pakistani boards yet. It is expected once all provincial boards adopt the new scheme. For 2026 results, no GPA appears on the DMC.
