Position Holders in 12th Class Result 2026: How They Are Chosen

Position holders in the 12th class result 2026 are students who score the highest aggregate marks in their board and group. Boards announce them on result day or shortly after. Here is how the selection works at Punjab, FBISE and other boards.

Position holders in the 12th class result 2026 are students who score the highest aggregate marks among all students in their board and program group. Each board announces its own position holders independently. There is no national position holder list.

How Position Holders Are Selected

Position holders are ranked by their aggregate percentage across all subjects in the annual exam. The student with the highest percentage in their group (Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, Arts, Commerce, etc.) gets first position; the second-highest gets second, and so on.

Most boards announce positions 1, 2 and 3 per group and per gender. Some boards announce the top 10. The announcement happens on result day or within 24 to 48 hours.

Does a Position Mean Anything for University Admission

Being a board position holder improves your merit percentage and is noted on your DMC. Some universities give a small additional weight or scholarship to board position holders. For MDCAT and ECAT admissions, the position itself does not change the merit formula, but the high marks behind it do.

What If Two Students Have the Same Marks

If two students have exactly the same aggregate, most boards first look at marks in a specific core subject (for example Biology for Pre-Medical, or Mathematics for Pre-Engineering). If still tied, the board may declare joint positions.

Where to Find Position Holders

Position holders are published on each board's official website on or shortly after result day. Punjab boards also hold press conferences. Some boards publish a gazette PDF that lists all position holders by group.

Aggregator sites often list position holders from press reports. For the official and final list, always check your board's official website or gazette.

Gazette: The Full Board-Wide Result

The result gazette is a PDF published by the board that lists every student's marks and pass or fail status. Position holders appear at the front. The gazette is usually published 1 to 4 weeks after the result, not on result day itself.
